Quick Tool Access

Arrange Window Tool MenuEver find yourself mousing over to the tool buttons to switch to the tool you want to use?  The Esc key provides quicker access to the tools available for the window you are working in.  After pressing escape the tools can be selected with the mouse or by using the corresponding keyboard shortcut.

BONUS TIP: Pressing the Esc key twice will reset the selected tool back to the Pointer Tool.

Capture as Recording

Capture Recording Transport Button PrefHave you ever been playing along with a track and wish that you would have been recording? If you happen to be playing a Virtual Instrument or external MIDI instrument, the ‘Capture as Recording’ function can save the day. Simply set up a shortcut key or customize your transport bar to add a button next to the regular record button for quick access.

Too bad that there isn’t a function like this for audio recording.

Temporarily Disable Default Startup Action

By default Logic opens the last project you worked on automatically when you launch the app. However, if you aren’t opening Logic to work on that project it can be time consuming while you wait on it to finish loading just so you can close it.

Luckily, you can bypass this behavior by holding the Option key while Logic is opening. Logic will open and show the menu bar at the top of the screen without performing the default startup action so you can chose to start a new project or open an existing project.
