If you happen to be playing a Virtual Instrument or external MIDI instrument, the ‘Capture as Recording’ function can save the day. Simply set up a shortcut key or customize your transport bar to add a button next to the regular record button for quick access.

Too bad that there isn’t a function like this for audio recording.
